SINGAPORE — Two men have been injured after the truck they were in crashed through a stretch of metal railings at Bedok North Avenue 4 and plunged to the bottom of a monsoon drain.

The 57-year-old driver and his passenger, 29, both SBS Transit employees, were conscious when they were taken to the Changi General Hospital, the police said on Wednesday (June 13). The extent of their injuries is unclear.

“We are investigating the incident and are thankful no one else was injured as a result,” said SBS Transit's spokesperson Tammy Tan.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened around noon, near the gates of St Anthony's Canossian School. They said they heard a loud screeching noise before the truck mounted a kerb, crashed through the railings, and landed on its side at the bottom of the drain.

An eyewitness who declined to be named said the truck appeared to be trying to stop for a red light prior to the accident. He added that the vehicle was lifted out from the drain at about 3pm.

When TODAY arrived at the scene at 5pm, workers were seen removing the damaged railings and restoring the barrier to its original condition.
