AHPETC to file audited accounts in a few days, says Sylvia Lim
The Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) has completed its audit for financial year 2014/2015, and will be filing its audited accounts in the next few days, said Workers’ Party (WP) chairman Sylvia Lim yesterday.
Ms Lim disclosed this yesterday in response to a question during the party’s press conference to introduce its candidates for the Sept 11 General Election.
When asked if any of the party’s new candidates can comment on how they can assure residents that they are capable of running another town council given that the WP-managed AHPETC has been portrayed in a bad light, Ms Lim said it was not “appropriate at this stage” to ask the new candidates about it.
“This issue of running town councils is something for the party to handle, and for the party to be judged on,” she added.
Noting that the WP has been running the AHPETC in the past few years, Ms Lim said: “We are ready to talk about this any time. During the elections, I’m sure it will come out as well.”
She stressed that residents in Housing and Development Board flats will know that town council management covers a whole range of issues. Apart from financial management, a town council also handles maintenance, cleanliness and lift breakdowns, among other things.
She added that the Ministry of National Development would judge a town council on these issues too.
“So, any discussion on town council really would have to take into account all these aspects,” Ms Lim said.
