Covid-19: 90-year-old citizen becomes eighth person to die from infection in S’pore
Case 1142, a 90 year-old Singaporean man, died from complications due to Covid-19 on Saturday morning (April 11).
SINGAPORE — An eighth person has died from Covid-19 in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Saturday (April 11).
Case 1142, a 90-year-old Singaporean man, died from complications due to the infection on Saturday morning.
He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on April 3 and was admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on the same day.
NCID has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them, MOH said.
The latest death is the oldest person to die from the coronavirus in Singapore.
So far, the eight patients who had died from Covid-19 infection in Singapore were aged between 64 and 90 years old.
Apart from these deaths, a 32-year-old Indian national, who is a long-term pass holder, had died on Wednesday while waiting for confirmation on his swab test.
He was confirmed to have the infection after his death. However, MOH said on Thursday that the man, who was Case 1604, died from ischaemic heart disease, and not due to complications from Covid-19 infection.
MOH said on Saturday that to date, a total of 528 cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
Of the 943 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving, the ministry added.
Thirty-one patients are in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 820 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
