Fire breaks out at Punggol field
SINGAPORE — A field at Punggol caught fire on Thursday (April 7) afternoon.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a case of vegetation fire in the open field, measuring 30m by 30m, beside Blk 256 Sumang Walk at about 1.15pm. There was no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Two fire engines, one red rhino and two fire bikes were dispatched, and the fire was extinguished by the SCDF using two water jets.
As of March 30, there have been 121 cases of vegetation fire this year, according to figures released by the SCDF previously. Between March 1 to 29, the SCDF put out 94 vegetation fires.
This latest vegetation fire was among at least two other fires that broke out on Thursday.
Over at Jurong, a fire broke out at a coffeeshop on the ground floor of Blk 851, Jurong West Street 81. The fire, which occurred at 10.40am, involved contents of the coffeeshop. It was put out within 15 minutes of SCDF’s arrival, using two water jets.
About 20 members of the public self-evacuated from the coffeeshop before the SDCF’s arrival. A further 10 residents from the upper floors were evacuated by the SCDF and police as a precautionary measure.
The SCDF said three people complained of breathlessness. Despite assessment by paramedics, they refused to be conveyed to the hospital, added the SCDF.
Earlier in the day, a fire broke out at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Eunos Cresent. It involved discarded items outside the flat. There were no reported injuries, said the SCDF.
The causes of fire in these two incidents are also under investigation.
