SINGAPORE — The Reform Party (RP) today (Aug 28) unveiled its six-man team for the Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC), to be led by former lawyer M Ravi.

Blogger Roy Ngerng, social activist Gilbert Goh, returning RP member Osman Sulaiman, former banker Jesse Loo and infocomm technology trainer Siva Chandran are the other five who will be up against the incumbent PAP team led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

At a press conference held outside a hair salon at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, the RP candidates spoke about the diversity in their team, which comprises experienced social activists and new faces. Mr Osman was in the RP team that contested Ang Mo Kio in the 2011 General Election. Then, the RP team won 30.7 per cent of the vote against the People's Action Party (PAP) team led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Mr Ngerng, who had been successfully sued by Mr Lee for defamation, said he was surprised at how comfortably the team works together. Mr Ngerng had engaged Mr Ravi as one of his lawyers in the defamation suit. The court is currently assessing the damages that Mr Ngerng has to pay Mr Lee.

Mr Ravi rejected suggestions that the RP team was a "suicide squad". "We present a different energy. We are a team to be reckoned with," he said.
