Male model who molested woman after Sentosa Cove party gets probation
Coker Gyles Akinkumni Jagdeesh, a Singapore permanent resident who is currently a full-time National Serviceman, arrives at court, Feb 27, 2019.
SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old male model was placed on 15 months’ probation on Wednesday (Feb 27) for molesting a woman after a private party at Sentosa Cove.
Coker Gyles Akinkumni Jagdeesh, a Singapore permanent resident who is currently a full-time National Serviceman, will also have to serve 100 hours of community service.
Coker, better known as Gyles Coker, is a British national and model who has appeared in fashion spreads in magazines. He also starred in a music video with local singer Tabitha Nauser for one of her singles, “Rules”.
Last month, he pleaded guilty to one count of outraging the woman’s modesty, an offence which carries a maximum jail sentence of two years, fine and/or caning.
The woman, who cannot be named to protect her identity, was swimming in the pool at One Degree 15 Marina Sentosa Cove club with her friend on the evening of Nov 18, 2017.
They noticed Coker at a private poolside party.
When the woman asked her friend if she wanted to get to know Coker, the latter laughed and said no.
The victim and her friend then showered and left the club. Her friend left in a taxi, while the woman waited for the club’s shuttle bus to Vivocity shopping mall.
It was then that she ran into Coker, who asked if she had a lighter. She said she was not a smoker and told him that she had seen him earlier at the private party.
She added that her friend was interested in him.
The woman then took a selfie with the accused to send to her friend and asked for his Instagram username so that she could pass it on to her friend.
Coker then struck up a conversation with the woman and said he was a model.
Placing his right arm around her shoulder, he told her that he was going to a house party and invited her.
The woman declined the invitation and wanted to leave.
It was then that Coker asked the woman if she felt sexually aroused and made a lewd remark about her private parts.
As she moved away from him, he grabbed her, pulled her towards him and molested her.
“According to the victim, this touch lasted for around three seconds. (She) was shocked and angry and she left the pickup point,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Gregory Gan.
That same night, she told her boyfriend and brother about the incident. A police report was made on Nov 20, 2017.
When passing his sentence, District Judge Jasvender Kaur told Coker: “This is really for your future. This is a time for you to grow… to instil certain values in you.”
