Man, 44, arrested for cheating victim of more than S$52,000 from prayer scam

SINGAPORE – A 44-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a prayer scam where a victim was cheated of more than S$52,000.
On May 8, the police received a report from a woman that she was allegedly cheated by Muniswamy Ganganna who told her that someone had cast a black magic spell on her.
By pretending to agree to conduct prayers for her, the man collected a string of payments from the victim, totalling S$52,250. However, after the payments were made, the man became uncontactable, said the police in a release on Saturday (Oct 7).
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division arrested the man on Friday (Oct 6). TODAY understands that the man is an Indian National.
Muniswamy was charged in the State Courts on Saturday. If he is found to be guilty, he faces up to 10 years’ jail and a a fine.
