SINGAPORE — A 48-year-old man was charged on Monday (May 2) in the State Courts with stealing a Volvo car along Turf Club Road in the early hours of the morning.

At around 5.45am on Saturday, Halik Rifai allegedly committed the theft of a silver Volvo S80 at a car dealer, Reliance by C&E, at The Grandstand. The car is valued at S$41,459.

The police said in a statement on Sunday that they received a report at 11.52am on Saturday about a car stolen from Turf Club Road and the suspect was arrested at East Coast Park within 12 hours, after extensive ground enquiries.

The police prosecutor asked the court for Halik to be remanded for a week for investigations, and district judge Wong Choon Ning granted the request.

Halik will return to court next Monday. If found guilty, he can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
