SINGAPORE — About 300 employers will learn to develop enterprise capabilities and HR practices over the next two years, under a new series of masterclasses developed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).
Targeted at both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and multinational corporations (MNCs), the masterclasses will allow employers to pick up ways to implement progressive HR practices, with skills-based career development pathways.
This is in line with the SkillsFuture movement, which aims to give all Singaporeans a chance to acquire skills at every age.
One of the biggest challenges in the SkillsFuture movement afoot is getting SMEs on board, said Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam today (May 20).
Mr Tharman, who also chairs the SkillsFuture Council, said that there was a need to identify new mechanisms to make this happen. One way would be to create intermediaries between employers and industries, and the Council would be studying this further.
Both agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Lifelong Learning Institute today to launch the SNEF-WDA Enterprise Growth Series, which consists six masterclasses.
“The new masterclasses will allow business decision-makers to pick up useful pointers on talent development by learning from subject matter experts, as well as share best practices with one another,” said Mr Goh Eng Ghee, acting chief executive of WDA.
So far, 50 SMEs and MNCs have come on board and took part in a SkillsFuture Employers’ Pledge Ceremony today.
The first masterclass — Winning the War for Talent — will kick off in July, while the next five will be rolled out progressively over a two-year period.
Topics covered include Strategic Human Resource Management, Leadership, Business Management and Talent Development and Motivation.
