SINGAPORE – MediaCorp, along with five others, received the prestigious Pinnacle Award from President Tony Tan Keng Yam today (March 13).
The award is given to organisations and individuals for their long-standing and impactful contributions to the President’s Challenge since it started in 2000.
The other recipients are Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, Lee Foundation, Singapore Pools, Dr Stephen Riady and the Tote Board. All the recipients received their awards during the President’s Challenge Commemorative Dinner held at the Istana earlier this evening.
“Fundamentally, CSR (corporate social responsibility) for MediaCorp is a wider commitment to building a better society,” said Mr Shaun Seow, MediaCorp’s chief executive officer.
“The President’s Star Charity (PSC) leverages our star power, our media reach and our ability to galvanise the community to do good. We have been producing the TV show every year since the inception of President’s Challenge, and my production team sees it as one of the year’s highlights. We go all out to put up a good show because we believe in the cause. Being recognised for that is a bonus!” he added.
The PSC is a MediaCorp effort in support of the President’s Challenge. All the funds raised from the show go directly to the beneficiaries and MediaCorp, like other organisations, absorbs a large part of the costs of organising the event. Since 2000, MediaCorp’s PSC has raised over S$55 million for the President’s Challenge.
Dr Tan Choon Kim, chairman, board of trustees, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, said: “We hope our partnership with the Challenge will grow from strength to strength, as we work together to create a more compassionate society...”
During the dinner, President Tan also gave the Outstanding Supporter Award and Loyal Supporter Award to 26 other organisations and individuals that have made special contributions to the causes supported by the President’s charity. Altogether, the 32 award recipients contributed over S$90 million in donations.
