SINGAPORE – Nathan Hartono has emerged as the runner-up in the finals of popular Chinese reality singing competition Sing! China.

The 25-year-old singer was declared runner-up after two rounds of voting during the show, which was held at Beijing National Stadium on Friday night (Oct 7) and telecast live on Zhejiang TV.

Hartono competed against five other finalists with his duet on Nunchucks with Jay Chou, and his cover of the latter’s The Longest Movie.

Hartono was among the last two standing with fellow finalist Jiang Dunhao from Team Wang Feng. In a nod to home, Hartono then sang Moonlight In The City, the theme song of popular TV show Tofu Street, originally performed by fellow Singaporean singer Mavis Hee as well as Anita Mui's Flower Woman in the second half of the competition against the Xinjiang-born Jiang. But Hartono was eventually edged out by Jiang who received 59, 882 votes compared to Hartono's 45,613.

This is the best showing for a Singaporean contestant in a Chinese reality singing competition.
