New Covid-19 cluster linked to barber shop in Bedok as Singapore reports 13 new community cases

Atatcutz hair salon in Simpang Bedok has six cases of Covid-19 linked to it.

SINGAPORE — Four of the new community cases reported on Saturday (June 5) are linked to a barber shop in Simpang Bedok, forming a new cluster, the Ministry of Health said.

Two of them are barbers at the shop, called Atatcutz Singapore. Both are Malaysians. 

The other two new cases linked to the cluster are a Singaporean woman who works for government agency Workforce Singapore and a Malaysian delivery rider for Pizza Hut.

The Atatcutz cluster now has six confirmed cases.

MOH said that there were no new unlinked cases in the community on Saturday and all 13 community cases had already been placed in quarantine earlier. 

This is the first time in over three weeks that there are no cases in the community with no known sources of infection.

In addition, there were five imported cases recorded on Saturday, all of whom had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has dropped from 138 cases in the week before to 129 cases in the past week, MOH said. 

The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at 20 cases a week in the past two weeks. 

UPDATES ON OPEN CLUSTERS

Two residents and a nursing aide at the Mindsville@Napiri housing facility for people with intellectual disability have tested positive for Covid-19, making it 30 cases in the cluster, MOH said.

All three had been vaccinated against the coronavirus and had already been placed on quarantine. They were detected through pro-active testing of the residents and employees of the facility.

An unemployed Sri Lankan who resides at Wanderloft Capsule Hotel was a new case linked to the McDonald’s delivery rider cluster.

One case was added to the cluster of industrial equipment distributor Tektronix Southeast Asia: A 25-year-old Indonesian domestic worker.

A 25-year-old student of the Singapore Institute of Management and a one-month-old baby were two new cases added to a cluster linked to a 74-year-old retiree who was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on May 24.

A 71-year-old Singaporean woman who is a Traditional Chinese Medicine physician at Bukit Timah Seu Teck Sean Tong Institution Limited was added to a cluster linked to a 56-year-old homemaker. 

A 29 year-old Singaporean man who works as an engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific and is a part-time student at Singapore Polytechnic was added to a cluster linked to a 61-year-old Singaporean woman who works at a Singapore Pools outlet in NTUC FairPrice supermarket along Clementi Avenue 3.

IMPORTED CASES

  • A Singaporean and two are permanent residents who returned from Canada and India

  • A student’s pass holder who came from the United Arab Emirates.

  • A special pass holder who is a sea crew member. He arrived from Thailand on a vessel and was tested onboard without disembarking.

UPDATE ON CONDITION OF CONFIRMED CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 62,176.

Of these, 61,613 have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 33 on Saturday.

There are still 207 patients in hospital. Most are stable or improving, and two are in critical condition under intensive care. 

Another 323 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19. 

Thirty-three people have died from complications due to the disease.
