Rotating trainees across different departments and sending them for overseas attachments are part of the training process offered by some firms that are looking to join the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn programme.

Bakery chain BreadTalk, confirmed as one of the companies in the programme, is planning a 15-month training stint for up to 10 trainees at the Asian Culinary Institute. The trainees, who will work with Nanyang Polytechnic graduates, can expect to participate in online learning modules and be part of productivity improvement projects and overseas attachments, said a BreadTalk spokesperson.

Each of them will start as a trainee assistant research-and-development chef and progress to become an assistant research-and-development chef and beyond throughout the stint, she added.

Their training will lead them to Singapore Workforce Development Agency’s Workforce Skills Qualifications Specialist Diploma in Culinary Management.

“We hope to retain and groom these young talents by offering them an accelerated career progression plan and opportunities to gain greater exposure by working overseas at our regional offices,” said the BreadTalk spokesperson.

Another retail company, Robinsons and RSH Group of Companies (picture), which will be participating in the Earn and Learn programme, said its trainees would attend various training courses and might be rotated among various departments, such as merchandising or finance.

The bulk of the training will be conducted at the retail store, and trainees will have mentors and coaches to help them acquire skills needed for the retail industry, its spokesperson said.

Dimension Data, an IT infrastructure solutions and services company, said if it comes on board the initiative, it will have a 12-month training stint under which trainees can access its online learning system to take courses and connect with experts around the world. NG JING YNG
