SINGAPORE – Members of the public can leave their well-wishes and flowers for former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew at a designated area outside Block 7 at the Singapore General Hospital.

Earlier today (March 20), the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Mr Lee is still critically ill. In the statement, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also thanked everyone for their support and well-wishes.

Several members of the public have already placed their greetings and well-wishes at the open space. Among those who left a note for Mr Lee Kuan Yew is 21-year-old Timothy Lee who just graduated from Temasek Polytechnic.

Timothy, who was in the vicinity of SGH and learnt about the designed area on social media, decided to place a bouquet of flowers and a note.

“Mr Lee Kuan Yew has contributed a lot to Singapore...without him Singapore will not be how it is today,” he added.

Another was 53-year-old real estate agent Kathy Ng who placed a daisy.

“My purpose is just to tell him that it’s not just the old people (who) appreciate him, there are many amongst the younger generation of Singaporeans (who also) appreciate him,” she said.

The Tanjong Pagar Community Club has also set up a space for well-wishers to leave flowers, cards and other gifts for Mr Lee. The Community Club is open from 9am to 10pm, but Mr Freddy Ang, Vice Chairman of Tanjong Pagar Citizens Consultative Committee, said they would keep opening hours fluid depending on the response.

“People have been calling the CC over the past three weeks, asking after Mr Lee’s health, a lot of people are very concerned,” he said. “So we thought this would be a nice thing to do”.
