S’pore Pools, Turf Club to apply for exemption

Both gambling operators here, Singapore Pools and the Singapore Turf Club, will be applying for exemption from the laws to curb remote gambling, which kicked in yesterday.

The operators have six months from yesterday to cease remote-gambling operations or apply to be an authorised operator. They currently allow registered customers to place bets via a phone or a smart device. Less than 10 per cent of the operators’ turnover are from remote-gambling services.

A Singapore Pools spokesperson yesterday said in response to TODAY’s queries that it would apply for exemption.

The Singapore Turf Club had previously indicated that it would do so. With the new laws in force, it is reviewing the details of the exempt operator application, a spokesperson said. YVONNE LIM
