SINGAPORE — Angry that the girl he met through an online game did not want to become his girlfriend, an 18-year-old boy took photos of her while they were having sex and uploaded them on her Twitter account.
On Wednesday (Feb 14), the teenager, who cannot be named to protect the girl’s identity, admitted to one count of insulting her modesty and another count of uploading the compromising pictures on Twitter.
Another charge under the Protection from Harassment Act will be taken account during sentencing.
The pair met through an online game around April last year. They become close friends and later engaged in sex.
“The accused wanted to advance his relationship with the victim to that of a boy-girl relationship; however, the victim was unwilling,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Chee Ee Ling.
The girl, also 18, was in a relationship with someone else at the time.
On Aug 18 last year when they were in her house, he blindfolded her when they were engaging in sexual acts.
Using his mobile phone, he took two photographs of the girl without her knowledge.
“I started to have thoughts that this relationship would not last ... I had wanted to keep the photo for my own viewing and to commemorate my relationship with her,” the boy said in the statement of facts for the case.
After the encounter, the boy had no luck in getting into a romantic relationship with the girl, and they drifted apart.
On Sept 3, he hatched the idea to post the two photographs on Twitter. She had given him the password to her account, said DPP Chee.
He decided to upload the photographs as he “wanted to get her attention” and for her to decide on the outcome of their relationship.
After uploading the pictures, he tweeted that he wanted to “expose this slut” who had “cheated on...her boyfriend of three years”.
He then changed the password to her Twitter account, locking her out of it.
The girl, a student, caught wind of the incident through her friends and demanded that the boy delete the compromising photos.
The photos were taken down after about an hour and she lodged a police report.
The boy will be sentenced on March 14. For outraging the girl’s modesty, he could be jailed for up to a year and fined. For uploading the incriminating photos with the intention for circulation, he could be jailed up to three months and fined.
