If the fairy tale of Snow White was rebooted Hollywood-style, it would probably feature a rainbow-cake-eating, selfie-snapping, sneaker-clad millennial. And the magic mirror wouldn’t be magic at all – it would be the Allure smart mirror by local startup Fred Technologies.

Allure would not only tell you who the fairest in the land is, it would also display your social media feeds while playing your favourite tunes via a built-in speaker as you bask in its advanced lighting technology. The formidable mirror features a 10-point capacitative touchscreen, 1,920 x 1,200 LCD screen and 1.5GHz octa-core CPU.

LIVING IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Visitors to IMDA Tech Saturday (Upsized!) 2018, which will be held on June 2 and 3, will get to see Allure up close. Part of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)’s Smart Nation Innovation Week, Tech Saturday (Upsized!) 2018 will showcase how local firms are incorporating key technologies into the way we live, work and relax.

The seven zones at Tech Saturday (Upsized!) 2018 aren’t just a display for new tech. They offer tangible proof of how economic frontiers are being transformed by technology in a diverse range of sectors. They are also an interactive showcase that allows visitors to touch, feel and experience how new and emerging tech can benefit them.

ZONE 1: BETTER LIVING THROUGH TECH

Get insights into how cutting-edge consumer technology can enhance your health and lifestyle. These made-in-Singapore gadgets and solutions include patented sleep mats that monitor babies’ breathing and a robotic ball for your dog or cat.

Too stressed to look after pets? Galini (above) by Neeuro can help. The “measurable relaxation and stress management solution” helps users measure, improve and manage their stress levels, pairing a SenzeBand that monitors your relaxation and concentration levels with app-based mental exercises featuring memory games and calming music.

ZONE 2: WORK IT OUT

Visitors can explore work-oriented technology in the form of service robots and immersive tech for training and simulations.

ST Engineering’s VR Response Trainer (above) is one example of locally produced tech that is making a difference at the workplace.

The immersive training system helps public safety and security officers sharpen their situational awareness and use-of-force judgement skills by simulating situations that change according to the user’s response, and allowing them to review their performance.

ZONE 3: LAB ON WHEELS

What happens when you take to the road with your technological showcase? The Lab on Wheels programme began as a single bus that offered young visitors a mobile taste of tech with coding games, robotics and wearable gadgets. This technological tour de force has now been expanded to four buses, two of which will be at the event.

Visitors can try immersive tech headsets, or solve Artificial Intelligence (AI) puzzles. Kids will enjoy learning through PlayMaking, which explores how technology-enabled toys can teach them essential knowledge and skills.

This year’s Tech Talk segment will feature content creators Wah!Banana and non-profit organisation CodingGirlsSG.

ZONE 4: IT’S PLAYTIME

Part of the journey towards becoming a digital economy includes being able to have some digital fun.

At this interactive playground, visitors can try out made-in-Singapore games for all ages, take part in the Digital Maker Carnival where old-school fun-fair games are powered completely by microbit controllers, spray-paint a digital graffiti wall and even race drones around obstacles.

If the force is strong in you, head to Lenovo’s Star Wars Jedi Challenge. Grab a lightsaber, slide on your headset and unleash your inner Skywalker in this augmented-reality experience.

ZONE 5: BE INSPIRED

Get up close and personal with intriguing prototypes, all created by Singapore students who will be on hand to explain the workings of their autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.

With 2018 World Cup mania about to hit fever pitch, this would be a good time to take on Temasek Polytechnic’s AI goalkeeper (above). It’s one thing to practise free kicks, but what about doing it against a goalie that analyses your kicks and becomes better at blocking your shots?

Once the realm of science fiction, machine learning has made this a reality by enabling the AI goalkeeper to detect the ball and become better at predicting its trajectory.

ZONE 6: GET INVENTIVE

Whether you’re a preschooler or a part of the Pioneer Generation, there’ll be a workshop to suit your interests.

With over 50 tech and media workshops, visitors can make a cloud lamp, build a drone, create their own computer game and write code for a robot.

And if you’ve ever felt frustrated with your car’s Global Positioning System (GPS) map, why not try to out-map the competition by designing your own GPS app?

ZONE 7: TO MARKET WE GO

If you’re inspired to take some tech home with you, some of the products at Tech Saturday (Upsized!) 2018 can be bought at this zone.
