Philippines rescuers are racing to find survivors, after a powerful earthquake struck southern Philippines yesterday. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which centred off Mindanao, is the strongest to hit the country since 1976. Only four people are officially missing, but authorities say they have yet to search several collapsed buildings. The death toll stands at 38, with more than 470 people injured. According to early assessments, around 2,500 houses and 117 government buildings across several provinces have been damaged. More than 32,000 people have been displaced.
