South Korean voters head to local elections in first nationwide test for President Lee

03:47 Min

South Koreans will head to the polls tomorrow in local elections that are widely seen as the first political test for President Lee Jae Myung's administration. Mr Lee took office a year ago, promising economic reform and a revival of South Korea's financial markets. The elections will decide thousands of local government seats across the country, including the closely watched race for Seoul mayor. The ruling Democratic Party says it needs stronger support to push ahead with reforms, while the conservative People Power Party says the vote is a chance to check growing political dominance by Mr Lee and his allies. Lim Yun Suk reports from Seoul.
