World Food Programme's David Stevenson on Congo's Ebola response

02:53 Min

The Ebola outbreak is spreading in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cases have been detected in 24 health zones across the country. Health officials have only managed to track fewer than 40% of known contacts in the hardest-hit province of Ituri. But officials are optimistic — the country has reopened the sole airport at the centre of its Ebola outbreak, after the number of suspected cases dropped. The World Health Organization said suspected cases dropped to 116 from more than 900 late last week. World Food Programme country director David Stevenson explained how food assistance played a critical part to Ebola's response.
